Case Study - Subway

Steven Woods, owner of the SUBWAY franchise in Dunfermline was one of the first business owners to reap the benefits of the BIDS business support project after being awarded £5,000 as part of the Fife Council grant which was administered by Dunfermline Delivers.

The grant allowed Steven to purchase a refrigerated van which would ensure the development and expansion of his business idea to deliver lunches to businesses across Dunfermline.

What attracted you to Dunfermline?

Dunfermline is a growing town with many business parks and outlying towns such as Rosyth and Inverkeithing nearby, I felt this area was the perfect location for my delivery service enabling me to reach a number of businesses across Fife.

What support have you had from Dunfermline Delivers?

Without the grant from Dunfermline Delivers I would never have been able to purchase the refrigerated van and therefore the service as it is would not be available at all today. The team has also been very proactive in helping to promote the service and making businesses aware of events in the town, which in turn can be used to put in place plans to bolster business during activities.

How does this compare with other trading locations?

Without working in other communities it is difficult to compare, however, as a business owner I know that I always have the support system of the BID at all times should it be required.

Do you feel positive about the future in Dunfermline?

Yes, I do feel that Dunfermline is constantly growing on top of an already established foundation and that is the reason for investing my business in the town. We have now been trading for 6 years and hope to continue this long-term and with the help from Dunfermline Delivers and Fife Council in purchasing the van, I hope to progress and build further as we develop more ideas for the business.

What is your best advice to give new businesses?

Make sure to research and seek advice from local organisations such as Dunfermline Delivers.
They have proven to me that they have the best interests of the community and the town at heart with the work they do to maintain Dunfermline as a great place to live and do business. Where there is a sound Business Plan in place, Dunfermline Delivers can help in making the dream a reality.

Can you share any plans for the future?

Using the new concept I hope to build on the already current success of the delivery service around the town whilst touching base with potential new customers.
