Long-haired cats need to be combed more often - at least several times a week. If entangled or tangled areas appear, it's a good idea to spend more time combing them thoroughly. Holding the coat just below the spinning wheel will prevent your pet from feeling pulled by the hair. By combing your cat we not only help her to get rid of any quilts, but also prevent her from swallowing excess fur.

Swimming

Do cats avoid bathing? Not necessarily if we introduce this habit at an early age. Most of them, however, do not like water, so it is worth preparing properly. It is best to plan this activity on a warm day. Be careful not to let water get into your pet's ears. At the same time, make sure that the cat cannot go outside immediately after bathing and is not exposed to draughts. Frequent baths are not recommended in individuals who do not leave. Shorthair does not need it as often as racial and long hair. The latter are advised by the vets to have a regular toilet to keep the coat in good condition and to prevent the hair from becoming greasy.

What else to remember

Other treatments include cutting claws, oral, eye, nose and ear hygiene. Cats scratch to shorten their claws, so our help will be useful. From the youngest age, let's get used to scissors and don't wait until the cat starts scratching furniture or getting hurt while playing. From time to time we should also check your pet's ears. When wax accumulates inside, gently remove it with a clean cotton swab. The same applies to eyes and secretions that accumulate in the corners. In this case, in order to avoid irritation, we can soak a cotton pad with warm, boiled water or tea essence. - Maintain oral hygiene with dry food. It prevents tartar build-up. If mature cats will require tartar removal, we should go with them to the vet," adds Aquael's expert.
